Mosaic Madness!
February 2010 | Published in Featured, Scene
To prepare us for the annual Mosaic Music Festival, Esplanade came up with the Mosaic Studios. Think of it as the bite sized version of the festival. Like the trailer to a movie. But not exactly it. Cause different bands are performing. Okay, that might or might not make any sense.
To be honest, I felt disappointed with this year’s line-up. That’s just my opinion. It’s okay if we disagree. To me, nothing can beat 2008’s stellar line-up. I remember that year. I bust my bank account for Broken Social Scene and Harry Connick Jr. It was bittersweet. Maybe cause I was a struggling student with a part time job that doesn’t pay a lot then.
I didn’t get to see Sondre Lerche and The Bird and The Bee. But heck. The line-up was brimming with fabulosity – it’s almost sinful!
Fast forward to 2010, Karen O decked in a colourful head dress, prancing around the Concert Hall stage. Spitting water to God knows where! Trying to swallow the microphone. What a night! I just recovered from Tonsillitis but I wasn’t gonna miss this for the world. Minus the grumpy usher who forbade us from taking any snapshots. Okay fine, I just wanted some for keepsakes. Everything else was electric. I half-wished they did the original version of Turn Into instead of the stripped down version.
Second row from the front. Andrew Bird was just 2 metres away from where I was. I had the urge to wave hello or give him a wink. Thank God I restrained myself. Nothing embarrassing throughout the performance. Phew! I was mesmerized by the one-man show. Mr Bird clearly was in his own world. Everyone was in awe.
Till the Mosaic Music Festival!
P/S So, who’s going for St. Vincent?
