Coffee/Tea/Milo with After The Sky
October 2009 | Published in Interviews
In this day and age, there are the usual bands. And then we have After The Sky. They are steadily joining the ever-growing list of bands wanting a piece of the pie in the local music scene. Guess what? They just might get a huge slice too. With the interview done at a local kopitiam – how local can we get?

Mon: Tell us the story behind the band name.
Bernard: Well, it’s nothing biggie really. Back when we were ‘No Direction’, there were tons of bands around the world having that same name. We used to joke about having a ‘No Direction’ festival, since one band name can spawn all kinds of genres.
Zefro: Don’t believe us? Haha, then check it out yourself at MySpace.
Tweet: Anyways, the name After the Sky has no elusive meaning to it. Just our way of saying to reach for the sky or to venture what is beyond. No Harry Potter hookie-pookie story.
Mon: What happened to Fad then? (the original voicebox)
Bernard: All we can say is that we want to keep the integrity of the band.
Hezwan: Well, he had some personal issues to commit to. We felt it was better off that way. We’re still friends though!
Mon: We hear some of you are football fanatics. Which camp do you pledge allegiance too?
Tweet: The Kop. For life.
Zefro: I’m not a football fanatic. Never been a fan.
Mon: Arr. Okay, other than After The Sky, you guys are with Bella Luna…
Zefro: Okay, let me just state that Bella Luna has never been a crew. We’re not even a club or fraternity. We just happen to be friends and friends of friends who like to make friends.
Tweet: We had a studio where the faithful congregate to jam or kick back and have some fun. It’s kind of sad that we had to close down the shop.
Bernard: May the memories live on.

Mon: Now that you’re being endorsed by Alpine Stars, will reaching the sky be remotely possible?
Bernard: The endorsement is just one way for to reach out to new audiences, those who’ve never heard of After The Sky or even Alpine Stars brand.
Hezwan: Even better, now that we’ve got new threads to rock out in.
Mon: True or False. Math is murder.
(ATS): TRUE!
Zefro: It’s so bad that even Tweet has to have a calculator in his watch.
Mon: What can we expect, musically, on your next release?
Tweet: Well, one thing for sure, we’re going for a lot melody this time round. There will definitely be less screaming.
Bernard: We’re trying to change the way we write music, widening our myriad of influences to create something new.
Mon: Some has viewed “Progressive Hardcore” as an oxymoron. Care to comment?
Zefro: Well, I for one think the way hardcore has grown have perhaps spawned other sub genres.
Bernard: Comeback Kid would be a perfect example of how Hardcore has changed. It is no longer just 4-beat drumming and power chord riffing. What is being written is getting more complex in certain context.
Mon: Looks like we’ve satiated ourselves with your thoughts. Any last words for SoundSGood readers?
Tweet: Look out for the upcoming CD!
Zefro: Stay Local!
