Baybeats 2009

October 2009  |  Published in Scene

Sometime in August or September, everyone starts to look forward to Baybeats. Counting down to THE Esplanade event of the year.

Year in, year out – one question springs into mind. So, will the acts be any good this year or will it be relegated to a mediocre event? Nevertheless, music makes people come together, so no complains about the crowd. Or it’s massiveness.

The event ended but we’re stuck with such mixed feelings. For me, a frequent eavesdropper whilst jostling in the crowds – I manage to pick up some rather ‘colourful’ comments being made.

“Eh, I think previous Baybeats better ah.” Cues some grumbling. “You call this good music?” Harsh. I guess it’s normal for people to pass comments. Especially when something’s free.

The general consensus:

Like I said mixed feelings. I’m just one of the critics in the crowd, hoping for acts every year.

First, sound inconsistency between sets. Next, location! Location! Location! Why is there always a “misplaced” band? Or sometimes why is it that we’re not standing? Merely sitting during a rocking performance. How inappropriate!

Baybeats, in general, is just like any other year. For a hyped up event, it fails to impress. Once again, hate it or love it, you’re bound to drop by for a set or two. Perhaps, you just have to ask your friend how was it.

Till next year where I expect a much BETTER Baybeats since its turning 10!

See you in a year.
