Five-piece indie pop band, My Writes first album, It’s Okay, I’m With The Band is a diverse listening experience after a couple of spins from the misleadingly well packaged CD. My Writes is hands down one of the bands that shine brightly at the moment.  Unfortunately, It’s Okay, I’m With The Band fails to capture the essence and vibrancy of the band. Thing is, it’s not the band’s fault.

The biggest gripe of the album is the production quality. Straight from the first track Holding On With Dreamers, there was simply not enough punch and the song felt somewhat flat.  It continued until the fourth track where My Writes finally came out and stomped their signature style and sound. The quality was slightly better.

There are 11 tracks officially listed on the album but watch out for a  hidden 12th track cheekily called MooHoo. Songs like Stars, Cyrcles and Red Tracks showed the band’s virtuosity. Throughout the album My Write’s vocalist Dhaniah sultry voice continue to mesmerize. The track Midnight Sky and Glue stood out the most with a bossa nova and jazz fusion vibe. Definitely a must listen track from the album. Another gem is Love In The 60s which will make your head bop along with it’s infectious ditty.

Despite marred by poor production quality, My Writes It’s Okay, I’m With The Band is still a good if not an excellent album simply because the band is that good and it shows from the well-written and wonderfully soulful songs by My Writes.
