Event: IGNITE! Music Festival 2009

Venue: Republic Polytechnic

The last time I stepped into a school was more than a year ago. Man, that’s quite a while back and now I’m depressed. Well, not entirely. I’m back in Republic Polytechnic (no, I didn’t study there) for the IGNITE! Music Festival 2009. The outdoor music event is also known as the biggest music festival by a tertiary institution. Not a bad idea, I must say.

Kudos to Republic Polytechnic and the rest of the sponsors for staging such an event for our restless youngsters. Who may or may not be lounging around Esplanade or City Link prancing around otherwise. Many of whom were dressed to impress. Didn’t know we had to dress up for a gig. Noted.

The crowd was mostly made up of youths, family and friends of the band (I noticed some makciks clapping to the music – not a sight I see everyday, mind you) and there were groups of Bangladeshi workers loitering around, soaking up the atmosphere. Not too sure who informed them about the gig though. Considering, you had to walk quite a distance from the MRT to the location. Nonetheless, everyone was enjoying themselves.

Overall, IGNITE proves to be a good way to gather music lovers. Two thumbs up for the myriad of bands playing. Ending the night with The Great Spy Experiment was a genius idea – considering they had the crowd pumping and moshing. You heard it right. Who said you can’t mosh to GSE?
